Natural Mineral Waters Europe (NMWE) has launched Sources for Nature, a project to strengthen biodiversity protection around Europe’s natural mineral water sources.
The initiative brings together companies, national associations and civil society organisations to implement concrete biodiversity actions across multiple locations in several European countries over the next two years.
Sources for Nature is based on the Recommendations developed by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) for the natural mineral water sector. The Recommendations published in May 2025 provide a practical framework for assessing biodiversity impacts, setting targets and guiding measurable action in the field.
Participating sites will implement a range of nature-positive measures, including wetland restoration, regenerative agriculture, habitat protection and catchment-level cooperation.
Beyond on-the-ground action, Sources for Nature is designed as a collective learning process to share experience, refine approaches and strengthen effective biodiversity practices across the sector.
The initiative will culminate in 2028 with a final conference presenting results and lessons learned.
